Diwali in 2019 will fall on 27 October, Sunday.  It doesn't fall on the same date every year, hence it is decided by according to the moon. So in 2019, there are few facts which you should be aware of Diwali 2019. 


Diwali (Diwali, Deepawali, Dipawali, Deepabali) is a festival of light and has a gazetted holiday in India. Followers of Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism observe various rituals related to Diwali.

Diwali celebrations can last up to five days. Many people decorate their homes and workplaces with small electric lights or small earthen lamps on Deepavali. Water bottles with floating candles and flowers on the surface are also popular decorations on Diwali.

Many people make special efforts to clean their homes and yards before Diwali. They wash themselves with water and fragrant oil put on new clothes and even offer sweets, gifts to family members, close friends, and their business associates. Fireworks are carried out in some areas in the evening. Fairs are held in many cities and villages.


People of different regions of India can celebrate Diwali on different dates. This is because the traditional lunar calendar can be understood in different ways. For example, in Tamil Nadu, Deepawali is celebrated in the Tamil month of Aipasi.

6. It is also said, Hindu celebrates Diwali as Lord Rama returns to Ayodhya as their victory of truth on untruth, after defeating the evil king Ravana.

7. During Diwali, Kali Mata (evil destroyer) is worshipped in the city, Kolkata. People often exchange Sweets and gifts to their friends and family members.


8. Apart from decorating their homes with lights and diyas, people also decorate their homes with Rangoli. The rangoli is drawn at the entrance of their homes to welcome God.
