Here I will provide you some steps by which, you can check whether your name is on the Electoral Roll or not.


Before proceeding further, let's talk about the Election Commission of India. The Elections are held by the Election commission of India. The Election commission of India is a constitutional body(Article 324) that is responsible for the administration of the Election in India, like the Lok Sabha Election, Rajya Sabha Election, State Legislative Assemblies Election, State Legislative Councils, and the offices of President and the Vice President of India.

The Election commission of India, to improve the procedure of Election, they started Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) It was first tried in the state of Kerala in the year 1982 for the Assembly Elections. They launched their own website in the year 1998 to provide accurate information. To prevent electoral fraud, the Election Commission of India issued Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) number in the year 1933, and these became mandatory by the 2004 election. In certain situations, Ration Cards were also allowed.

The most important fact to know is in the 2014 election, the Election commission of India, none of the above (NOTA) was also added as an option on the voting machines, and it is a mandatory option to be provided in any election.

The Elections are near in some of the states of India, and as a citizen of India, If you want to cast your vote in the election, the most important thing is that your name should appear in the Electoral Roll of the Election Commission of India, then only you can cast your vote in the election.

The Electoral Roll of  Election Commission of India is documented on which the names of the people whose age is 18 years or above and have Voter Id cards. It means if your name is there on the list, then only you can cast your vote, and your name is not there on the electoral roll, then you will not be allowed to cast the vote in the Election.


Generally, if you have a Voter ID card, It means your name will appear on the Electoral Roll. But due to some issues, sometimes the name does not appear in the list, there may be any reason. They realize this when they reach the polling station and did not find their names in the electoral roll, despite they have their Voter ID. So, it is important to check your name is listed in the list of the electoral roll or not, so that you don't need to get hectic at the polling station.

Below are some steps which you can follow to check whether your name is on the Electoral Roll or not

-On the page, there is a box "Seach in Electoral Roll", click on this tab. After clicking on the link, it will redirect you to the next page.

-After filling the mandatory details like Name, Date of Birth, State, District, Gender and so on, click on the search box, after that, it will either show your name in the Electoral Roll or your name will not appear in the Electoral Roll, it may be any case.


Follow the steps if you want your name in the Electoral Roll

-There may be certain reasons why your name is not reflecting in the Electoral roll, for each reason, depending on the case, the Election Commission has various forms on their website National Voter's Service portal. You will get the forms on the main page according to your issue.
- If you want to apply for the fresh Voter ID card, you need to fill form 6 to register yourself as a voter. You should have documents like proof of Age and Residence and a recent passport size photo.
-If you want to update or correct your details like their Age, you can correct your details by filling Form 8.
-If you have shifted to a different location or different constituency, you need to fill the form 8A.
-If you want to delete your name from any constituency and move to a new constituency, you must fill out Form 6. Form 6 is to register to vote in a new constituency and by filling in Form 7, your name will be removed from the voter list in the old constituency.
