Compulsory to prefix 0 for making landline-to-mobile calls 



 There are not enough landline users in India as compared to mobile phone users. The number of users increasing day by day in India. The reason for the increasing mobile phone users is the number of people. So the concern is that with the increasing population there the time will come when there will not be enough mobile number available for the future consumer. 

So to overcome the issue, TRAI has asked DoT to add zero before dialing from Landline to Mobile phone users for that the new guidelines have been issued by the Department of Telecommunication.

The new guidelines have been issued by the DoT, that has made it compulsory to prefix 0 "ZERO" before a number for making a call from a landline number to a mobile phone number, which will be effective from the coming year i.e. January 15, 2021, earlier it was January 1, 2021, which will give enough time to the telecom companies to make adjustments.



 

The notification has come on  November 20, 2021, regarding modification of the dialing pattern from fixed line numbers to cellular mobile numbers. The modification took place in order to ensure that there are enough numbering resources available for fixed-line and mobile services, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended in the month of May and the same has been accepted by (DoT) in the month of November.



The new guidelines which are issued by the regulatory of the concern notification are mentioned below:-

 

1. The New guidelines by DoT to prefix "ZERO" to make calls move comes after the sector regulator, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommended the move to create enough numbering space for telecom regulating companies. 

 

2. The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) in a notification said the fixed-line users will soon begin hearing the announcement apprising them of the coming move. The message will be played whenever a fixed-line user will dial a mobile number without prefixing 0. 

 

3. All the fixed-line subscribers should be provided with `0' dialing facility, that is, STD dialing facility," said the circular posted on DoT's website.

 



The DoT has given all telecom service providers time to implement the new order till January 15, 2021, but it was 1st January 2021 earlier.

 

"Compliance with the same can be reported," the DoT circular added.
