The whole process works on the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) communication protocol. USSD. USSD is a technology that is used to send texts to a mobile network that only works only on GSM (Global System for Mobile) phones.
How does this service work without the internet over mobile phones?
This USSD service platform brings all the banks and all the service providers together to make financial transactions over mobile devices without access to the internet on Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
To use the service on the mobile phone, you just have to dial *99# on your mobile device then wait for a few moments. After a few seconds, a pop-up will flash on the screen. Apart from transferring funds, you can check bank balance, you can change UPI PIN, and many more. One can transfer funds through your mobile number, UPI ID, IFSC, and Bank Account Number, and many more, you can also request a transfer of money using a mobile number and UPI PIN and even you can use desired services by just pressing the number which is mentioned adjacent to the service.
You can even transfer the amount to a person who is not even a NUUP service user. To use this service on your mobile device, the mobile user must be registered with their mobile number with the Bank.
There are few points to remember before using the feature
- One thing to note that there is no such threat for using the service. This can not be misused even if you lose your phone as it asks for the UPI PIN to make a successful transaction. But it is highly recommended that if you lost your mobile device, make sure you contact your bank so that one can not misuse it and be on the safer side.
